How to use the what to draw generator
The what to draw generator gives you a full drawing idea in one press: a subject, a twist and a setting.
- Choose a mode: Easy for a subject and a setting, Classic to add a twist, or Challenge for a style and a time limit too.
- Press New prompt. Lock any part you like with 🔓, and press again to change only the rest.
- In Challenge mode, press Start the timer and draw until it says “Pens down!”.
88,320 random drawing ideas
The generator mixes 69 subjects, 40 twists and 32 settings, so Classic mode has 88,320 different prompts. Challenge mode adds 14 styles and 6 time limits. Recent subjects, twists and settings are not repeated, so every press feels new.
| Part | Examples |
|---|---|
| Subject | a cat, a dog, a dragon, a robot, an owl |
| Twist | wearing a tiny hat, made of candy, made of clouds, made of glass, with wings |
| Setting | on the moon, under the sea, in a busy city, in a rainforest, in the desert |
| Style | in cartoon style, with only circles and squares, in one continuous line, with your other hand |
Drawing ideas for kids
Drawing ideas for kids work best in Easy mode, with a subject and a place, such as “a penguin at the beach”. Every subject, twist and setting is family-friendly, so any prompt is safe for children and classrooms.
Drawing challenges for practice
Challenge mode turns each prompt into a timed exercise with a rule, such as “in one continuous line” or “with only 3 colours”. Short limits of 1 or 2 minutes train quick sketching, and 15 or 20 minutes give time for a finished piece.
- Daily sketch: one Classic prompt a day, kept in a sketchbook.
- Drawing game with friends: everyone draws the same prompt, then compares.
- Art class warm-up: project the page and give the class 5 minutes.
For a party game where the others guess, use the charades generator. To spin your own list of ideas, use the spin the wheel tool.
